China Approves Six New Food Additives, Fermented Natural Ingredients Stand Out (May 22, 2026)
The National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment of China issued a public consultation announcement for six new food additives, including lacto-N-tetraose, enzymatic ascorbyl palmitate, neotame, casein phosphopeptide, fermented thaumatin, and galacto-oligosaccharides. The consultation period will end on June 20, 2026.
Among them, fermented thaumatin and enzymatic ascorbyl palmitate are bio-based natural ingredients that fully comply with the global trends of clean-label and healthy food. Lacto-N-tetraose, as a nutritional fortifier, is only allowed to be used in special dietary foods such as infant formula and toddler milk powder. The newly approved varieties focus on naturalization, functionalization and clean-label upgrading, helping food enterprises optimize product formulas and meet growing demands for healthy consumption.
